Grantex Dried Aggregates Support Long-Lasting Pathways at Wakehurst

Wakehurst, the wild botanic garden of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, required a pathway surface that could perform in a demanding public landscape without detracting from the natural setting.

With high levels of foot traffic, changing weather conditions and the sensitive character of the gardens to consider, the chosen surface needed to be durable, practical and visually sympathetic to its surroundings.

Working in collaboration with Addagrip, Grantex supplied the carefully dried and screened aggregates used within the resin-bound system. The aggregate was selected to provide a natural finish, helping the pathways blend into the surrounding planting, woodland and meadow areas.

Installed in 2018, the pathways have been exposed to continuous visitor use and the environmental pressures expected in a high-profile botanical setting. Several years on, the surface continues to perform as intended, supporting visitor movement while retaining a subtle, natural appearance within the landscape.

From open garden routes to quieter woodland walks, the resin bound surface has aged well, offering a practical pathway solution that does not compete with the beauty of the setting.

This project demonstrates the value of using high-quality dried aggregates in public realm and landscape applications where appearance, performance and long-term reliability all matter.

Contemporary Resin Bound Driveway

A contemporary residential property in St Albans required a driveway finish that would match the quality of the architecture while providing a durable and low-maintenance surface for everyday use.

TP Group worked alongside Slatter Estates Surfaces to deliver the installation, using a combination of premium resin bound materials, defined edging and specialist aggregates supplied by Grantex.

The project included approximately 90 linear metres of Kinley’s formable ResinEdge, creating a clean, structured border around the driveway. Within this bordered area, a bespoke Light Lunar resin-bound blend was installed to provide contrast and definition.

For the main driveway surface, the remaining 430m² was completed using a blend of Grantex Sterling Silver 2-5mm and Silver Blue Granite 1-3mm. The combination was selected for its contemporary appearance, hard-wearing qualities and ability to complement the sharp, modern design of the property.

Ronacrete’s resin system was used alongside the Grantex dried aggregates to support long-term surface performance. The result is a high-end driveway with strong visual definition, a refined colour contrast and a finish that enhances the overall kerb appeal of the property.

The completed project demonstrates how the right combination of specialist aggregates, resin technology and skilled installation can transform an external space into a durable, practical and visually striking surface.

Waltham Abbey

Grantex Dried Aggregates Help Transform Residential Driveway in Waltham Abbey

When homeowners in Waltham Abbey set out to upgrade their driveway, they wanted more than a simple surface replacement. The brief called for a finish that would improve the entrance to the property, complement the surrounding landscaping, and provide a durable, low-maintenance solution for everyday use.

Working in partnership with Addagrip, Grantex supplied the dried aggregates for a 6mm Scandinavian resin bound surface, covering an area of approximately 135m².

The existing concrete base presented several challenges, including uneven levels and areas that created potential trip hazards. Before the resin bound system could be installed, the surface was carefully reprofiled to create a smooth, stable foundation suitable for the finished driveway.

To define the edge of the new surface, a 15mm formable aluminium edging from Dural was installed, creating clean curved lines alongside the lawn. The Scandinavian blend was then combined with Addagrip’s resin system to deliver a seamless, contemporary finish that sits naturally against the property and surrounding garden.

The completed driveway provides a smart, practical and long-lasting entrance to the home. With its clean detailing, natural aggregate finish and low-maintenance performance, the project is a strong example of how carefully selected dried aggregates can elevate a residential resin bound installation.

Family Left In Impossible Situation Receives Support From Grantex

Lewis from JHB (UK) Ltd had carried out a site visit at the request of the Parson family a short time back. They had been left with an unfinished patio and driveway thanks to a contractor who hadn’t returned to finish the job or rectify the issues, despite pocketing thousands of pounds. The initial work was required to provide wheelchair access for the Parsons’ lovely Son and had now left the family in an impossible situation, as the failed driveway now posed a safety hazard as well.

Lewis knew he had to do something to help with this desperate situation and called on suppliers to pull together and come to the rescue, which, of course, they did!

To The Rescue

From start to finish, suppliers rallied to help; from removing the rubble and providing equipment to remove and re-lay the base, to provide the materials required for the transformation, not to mention the hard work and skills of those involved in making this project a success. Everyone rallied together to transform this driveway disaster into something functional, fit for purpose and the envy of the neighbours!

JHB contacted Addagrip Terraco for a resin-bound system for the new driveway. As a Grantex Surfacing stockist, Addagrip contacted us to see if we would like to help assist this family and we were only too pleased to be able to help with a donation of our Silver Blue specialist-screened dried aggregates. The Addagrip Stonebound system was selected in Castle Grey for its seamless, flexible resilience, which offers SUDs permeability.

Day One: Out with the Failed

It took three days for this incredible driveway transformation to occur. Day one was dedicated to breaking up and removing the old failed driveway and making good the beginning of the foundations.

Day Two: Preparing the Base

Day two focused on preparing the base — one of the most important stages of the whole installation. A resin-bound surface is only as good as the foundation beneath it, so getting this stage right was essential to ensure the driveway would be strong, stable and built to last.

Day Three: The Transformation

By day three, the transformation was ready to take shape, with the Stonebound resin-bound driveway being laid. The result was a safe, functional and attractive outdoor space that the family could finally enjoy again — a proper rescue, not just a quick tidy-up.

Tyson Fury’s Driveway

We had the great pleasure of being able to supply our Grantex specialist dried aggregates to a large job for the Gypsy King, Tyson Fury’s mansion located in Morecambe, Lancashire.

The laying of the job was most ably completed by Grantex Stockist in Peterlee, Co. Durham – Total Resin Solutions. 1,200 bags of aggregate were supplied to the biggest job that Total Resin Solutions had done to date, taking a total of 15 days to complete in total.

Seven days were taken up with surface preparations and a further eight days laying the resin surface with a large team on the job. Luckily the weather held out, if arguably a little too warm to work in. This massive job also had commissioned a huge Gypsy King logo detail into the driveway. Tyson’s wife Paris was a little unsure at first about the bold statement being emblazoned on the drive, but after said she loved it too. So much so the family were photographed on the logo for Father’s Day photos.

The job was so popular it ended up being featured in both The Sun and The Mirror national newspapers as well as many online news outlets.

Aln Valley Railway Project

Volunteer railway enthusiasts of the Aln Valley Trust were aiming to develop the Aln Valley heritage railway corridor as a recreational and educational resource. Construction of the railway is an ongoing project with the eventual intention being to reopen the old Alnwick Branch Line from the newly completed Alnwick Lionheart terminus station in Alnwick, to Alnmouth station.

Greenrigg Halt Station is a new station on the Alnmouth end of the railway line. A platform edge was required here, offering delineation and slip resistance prior to its opening in Easter 2022.

David Jobling-Purser, Sales & Marketing Director of Jobling Purser trained some of the Aln Valley Trust volunteers, who then carried out the installation of the Rocbinda surfacing with the Grantex Coastal Quartz aggregate in 2–5mm. All materials were supplied FOC by Jobling Purser and ourselves as part of our ongoing community benefits work.

Installation was complete in March 2022. Area covered 85m².

Glasgow Science Centre

GRANTEX GUYANAN BAUXITE CHOSEN FOR THE NEW WALKWAYS AT GLASGOW SCIENCE CENTRE

Glasgow Science Centre was in need of a surface systems upgrade. Addagrip’s Addastone Plus resin-bonded surfacing system was selected for the new walkways at the iconic Glasgow Science Centre. This family visitor attraction is located in the Clyde Waterfront Regeneration area on the South bank of the River Clyde in Glasgow, Scotland.

SURFACE REQUIREMENTS

The existing pathway paving was in need of revitalisation and renewal. The client proposed a natural aggregate finish that would keep the contemporary buildings, whilst offering a resilient surface for this busy approach to the Science Centre and IMAX theatre.

The previous surface was a slabbed walkway that was removed and replaced with a well-compacted AC6 surface tar on top of an AC20 base tar ready for the resin-bonded finish.

Addagrip approved contractor Resarf Flooring Ltd was invited by Luddon Construction to install an Addastone Plus resin bonded surfacing system in Grantex’s 1-3mm Guyanan Bauxite.

The Addastone Plus scatter system offers a seamless natural aggregate finish and our selected Bauxite stone with a high PSV value to provide a high skid resistance for durability and safety.

The 600m² installation was carried out over a period of one week and completed in September 2021.
