Grantex Dried Aggregates Support Long-Lasting Pathways at Wakehurst
Wakehurst, the wild botanic garden of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, required a pathway surface that could perform in a demanding public landscape without detracting from the natural setting.
With high levels of foot traffic, changing weather conditions and the sensitive character of the gardens to consider, the chosen surface needed to be durable, practical and visually sympathetic to its surroundings.
Working in collaboration with Addagrip, Grantex supplied the carefully dried and screened aggregates used within the resin-bound system. The aggregate was selected to provide a natural finish, helping the pathways blend into the surrounding planting, woodland and meadow areas.
Installed in 2018, the pathways have been exposed to continuous visitor use and the environmental pressures expected in a high-profile botanical setting. Several years on, the surface continues to perform as intended, supporting visitor movement while retaining a subtle, natural appearance within the landscape.
From open garden routes to quieter woodland walks, the resin bound surface has aged well, offering a practical pathway solution that does not compete with the beauty of the setting.
This project demonstrates the value of using high-quality dried aggregates in public realm and landscape applications where appearance, performance and long-term reliability all matter.
